Plastic #1 Serial Killer Love Comic Book with Variants

Here is a trio of covers I picked up for the first issue of the comic book PLASTIC.

This one looks like it will be a fun one to collect. The regular cover is the first one starting from the left.

Plastic #1 description:

"Retired serial killer Edwyn Stoffgruppen is in love with Virginia, a girl he "met online." Her affection quiets his vile urges. Together, they tour the back roads of America in their LTD, eating doughnuts and enjoying their healthy appetites for each other. Life is good...until a Louisiana billionaire kidnaps Virginia, forcing Edwyn to kill again in exchange for her freedom.

Oh, and did we mention that Virginia is a sex doll?

"This is the weirdest sh** I've ever read. I love it!" - ROBERT KIRKMAN (THE WALKING DEAD, OUTCAST BY KIRMAN & AZACETA, INVINCIBLE)"

Bag Break: Himalayan Pink Salt Lentil Chips From The Daily Crave

I opened and ate from a bag of The Daily Crave Breaking News Himalayan Pink Salt Lentil Chips.

Very salty.

At first taste these made me think of pork rinds, but after you've had a few the taste then transitions to being more like an extra salty Bugle corn snack taste. So, there you have it, pork rinds meets Bugles.

Alien Day 2017

Apparently today is ALIEN DAY. As in the movie franchise Alien. Why this is, I do not know.

I decided that to mark the occassion I would open a free pack of Alien Anthology digital cards from Upper Deck e-pack. And by cards I really mean card, there's only one card in the free pack.

Here is the card I pulled:

The Alien Anthology cards are pretty boring in my opinion.

Christian Arroyo Made His Giants and Topps NOW MLB Debut!!

The San Francisco Giants were looking for a spark of energy for their lineup going into a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and one move they made was calling up their top prospect Christian Arroyo.

This picture is what Arroyo at this exact moment uses as his Twitter profile pic:

Christian Arroyo is a SS by trade, but has been getting work at other positions and made his MLB debut at 3rd base. He went hitless on the night, but did move a runner over to third that eventually scored, as well as made some nice plays in the field. Specifically, he made a barehand play on a ball that careened off of pitcher Matt Cain. Cain was knocked to the ground after being hit by the ball, and Arroyo scooped it up, threw out the runner, and then followed through with his momentum taking him toward the mound by then helping Matt Cain back up to his feet.

If you're holding Christian Arroyo baseball cards be prepared for an uptick in value right now, the window seems…

Superhero Discussion: Cloak

I pulled this card of the Marvel character CLOAK from an Upper Deck e-pack of 2016 Marvel Annual Digital Trading cards.

As someone NOT at all schooled on superheros and their origins, the name made me chuckle. Cloak? Who pitched that one in the creative idea room?  Of course, while I might have amused myself with my lack of knowledge on the character, if you go and read about him on the Marvel Universe Wiki his superhero story is fairly interesting with Cloak seeming to be a play on Cloak and Dagger. Marvel WIKI LINK IS THESE BIG WORDS

If my only impression of Cloak was from this Marvel Annual trading card, however, I might continue to think he's as lame as my first impression dictated he was as a character. The back of the card reads: "Cloak lands in detention for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. On the other hand, this rare occurrence ends up sparing Cloak from fighting his classmates to the death for the rest of high school."

The picture on the front looks …

The Good and the Bad: Party Of Five Season 1

Netflix added the 90s drama Party Of Five to the service and I just finished watching the first season. Here are my quick "good and bad" things of Party of Five Season 1:

Lacey Chabert ala Claudia Salinger does a great job as a child actor. She brought most of the humor that there was for the first season, but doesn't waver in performance during dramatic moments either.

Neve Campbell as Julia Salinger has great on-screen presence as an actor as well. I'm not sure if she seems like a 15 year old, but in general her acting is pretty solid.

The family dog is cute.

The music is good! It was great to come into a scene with Bailey rocking out and hear it be the song I Alone from the band Live playing. Usage of the R.E.M. song Strange Currencies was good too.

The entire show has a strong "after school special" vibe going for it with the life lessons being explored in the plots. It becomes fairly predictable sometimes due to this. The acting performances a…

San Francisco Giants 2017 Season Thus Far

It's got to get better, right? 😀

Re-Animator Trading Cards From Fright Rags

This news seemed quirky enough to make a blog post about.

Over at FRIGHT RAGS they are selling boxes and single packs of Re-Animator trading cards.

Check out their site to see the cards and the sketch card artists who made sketches for the product, and other information, like, you might pull a Barbara Crampton autograph.

Re-Animator is a 1985 horror movie directed by Stuart Gordon about (synopsis from IMDB) "A dedicated student at a medical college and his girlfriend become involved in bizarre experiments centering around the re-animation of dead tissue when an odd new student arrives on campus."

Holy cow, they sell MADBALLS t-shirts too!

Topps Now Team Reserve Subscription Service

Topps NOW the print on demand Topps baseball cards are NOW offering a subscription service for the cards. The cards are usually available to buy within a 24 hour window of time when released, but NOW (Topps NOW, get it) in case you fear missing out on cards for your favorite team you can pre-purchase by team.

You select the team that you want, the amount of cards you will want, and then how many of each card you will want.

A subscription of 3 cards released is $24.99, 5 is $39.99, and 10 $74.99, but then those cost would go up depending on the number of each card one wanted.

Red Thorn: Glascow Kiss Attempted Read

I picked up a copy of RED THORN: GLASCOW KISS which is a book that collects the first seven Red Thorn comics into one volume.

It is a cool looking book, cool art. The story is very creative and has enough intrigue that I thought I'd get "into it." But, alas, I never finished reading this book, found myself sometimes confused and overall having a hard time keeping my attention on it. If you've been specifically looking for something that delves into some Scottish myth territory, however, I'm guessing you'd have strong interest in the premise of Red Thorn.

"On the rain-soaked streets of Glasgow, a girl whose drawings somehow come to life has just stumbled across her one true love. And thousands of miles below those streets, an ancient demi-god plots his escape from the prison where he’s been held for nearly two thousand years. Evil forces are at play and no one is safe as the legends of Scottish mythology collide with the modern world."

Box Break: Bacon & Cheddar Cheez-It Crackers

I've been trying all sorts of Cheez-It crackers, but still have not found a flavor that defeats the Extra Toasty style ones.

The latest box of Cheez-It crackers I opened was the Bacon & Cheddar flavored ones.

These crackers work as a mindless snack I guess, but at no point did I personally taste bacon. Even looking at the picture of bacon on the box and using my vivid imagination I failed to associate the taste of these crackers with actual bacon. The flavoring taste maybe like synthetic bacon bits, but I'm not sure if that is accurate because I have not eaten bacon bits in a very, very long time.

The fake bacon, or whatever, flavoring sort of kills the cheddar flavor off too. So, I personally did not enjoy Cheez-It Bacon & Cheddar crackers and was confused by the flavoring. If you are a real fan of bacon flavor, I don't think these crackers really have what you crave.

2016 Marvel Annual Comes To Upper Deck e-pack Digital Cards Store

Fans of Marvel trading cards may rejoice, or complain, depending on their thoughts involving 2016 Marvel Annual trading cards. (It's 2017, yo!) This trading card series is now available to be opened through Upper Deck's digital trading card e-pack system.

You can buy digital packs, boxes, or even cases, and look for sketch cards and such that can be turned physical ala mailed to you.

2016 Marvel Annual trading cards are also avialable via the "Free Pack Of The Day" in the e-pack store, which can net you a single card each day if you like. I've personally been opening a pack of Upper Deck Dinosaurs each day, but today I gave the Marvel Annual pack a whirl. My first 2016 Marvel Annual digital card pulled is of Dazzler.

Savage Things #1 and #2

Here's a comic book series I picked up the first couple of issues on. I plan to read it, but it's easy to collect a stack of comic books and before you know it you've got more books than you have reading time.

Savage Things comic issue #1 and issue #1. Info about the series is below the photo.

Twenty-five years ago, a secret government organization kidnapped children and trained them to be chaos agents who went on to foment unrest and execute enemies of the state around the world. When these cold and unfeeling creations proved too difficult to control, the powers that be exterminated their kill squad with extreme prejudice. Too bad it didn’t work. Now a rogue band of the worst monsters the world has ever known is cutting a swath of terror across the United States, threatening not just a disruption of the peace but to expose secrets their handlers never wanted to come to light. The only way to stop them is to call back the only man who ever walked away from them. His code n…

Zombie Tramp Easter Special 2017

I censored the photos. These are a couple of Zombie Tramp Risque Easter variants I got. I'm not pleased with Midtown comics for the condition the bunny one came in (via mail), appears to have been folded at some point.

Zombie Tramp has some fun art. I opened the book to see what the story was like. There was an Easter egg hunt going on with the eggs all being hidden inside the fat folds of a hefty lady, so, that's the type of humor one should expect. 😜

This Easter special has a third cover option as well that I saw, but I didn't need to make it a Zombie Tramp Threesome. So, there's three covers, and then three Risque variants of the same covers with the naughty parts on display.

Dark Souls Tales Of Ember #1 With Variants

As of this posting I have never actually played any of the Dark Souls video games. However, I thought the latest comic book based in the world of those video games looked really cool; judging a book by its cover.

The following are what appears in the pictures, though not in the right order, the regular cover is in the second picture with the lady thing and purple sky.

Dark Souls Tales Of Ember #1  Variant Michael Walsh Cover

World War Tank Girl #1

The character Tank Girl is going to do some time traveling and fight some nazis in the new Tank Girl comic series. I have issue #1 just because it was a fun cover to round out an order of comic books I was getting.

Harry's Men's Razor From Target Review

I let my facial hair grow to all different lengths before I decide to shave. I have used stick style razors of all sorts in my life and after a brutal few sessions with some off-brand disposables I decided to go the next level up. At Target I saw a new type of razor brand: Harry's. They were inexpensive and used an attractive packaging style, simple, yet refined seeming in appeal. I bought the bright orange one.

My handle came with two razor heads in the package and my first shave was a rough experience. I did not feel like the Harry's razor was any better than the previous disposable I had used.

Then for the next time I chose to shave, in what should have been a far easier job, much less hair to start with, I switched to a fresh Harry's razor head and gave Harry another shot. The second results were the same as the first. The razor was not a close shave by any means and I found myself doing a hack job trying to get the razor to cut the hair off of my face. I found if I he…

Box Break: Limited Edition Strawberry Cheerios Cereal

Yummy. Strawberry Cheerios taste good. Very sweet, probably lots of sugar. The milk after you eat the cereal is some good strawberry milk. Yummy. Limited Edition!

Skydoll Sudra #1 Comic Matteo De Longis Art Variant

In March the Skydoll comic series got its first English edition with Skydoll: Sudra #1. The characters inside are interesting looking and I did try to read the story, but I'll admit it was a bit confusing to me (unfamiliar with the Skydoll material) and the fact is I only bought the comic book because I thought the variant cover art of Matteo De Longis was cool looking.

However, if this is a comic book you buy sight unseen through the mail, I must point out that this cover variation may suffer from production damage. Or maybe I just lucked out and got a bad one. The cover of my Sky Doll Sudra #1 Variant Matteo De Longis came covered in black scuff marks. Oddly, they are worse looking in person looking than my picture shows. (You can see one on the bubble.)

Underwinter #1: Ray Fawkes Horror Comic Cover A & B

A new comic horror series by Ray Fawkes: UNDERWINTER.

Here is a look at the covers for the two copies I have.

Underwinter #1 Cover B Jeff Lemire
Underwinter #1 Cover A Ray Fawkes

"Critically acclaimed creator RAY FAWKES launches his new monthly horror series: UNDERWINTER, twisted portraits of our dark world, beginning with the perverse, topical SYMPHONY—a beautifully painted tale of music and cruelty in the modern age."

American Gods #1 The Comic Book Series

American Gods is an award winning novel written by Neil Gaiman.  However, it is now much more than that. A new comic book series based on the novel has been launched and a television series has been shot to air on Starz.

I do not get the channel Starz, but I do know a lot of people are excited about the television adaptation with the likes of Ian McShane, Emily Browning, Crispin Glover, Gillian Anderson, Cloris Leachman, Kristin Chenoweth, Orlando Jones, and Peter Stormare set to appeat in it. Even though I won't be rushing to subscribe to Starz I did pick up three copies of the American Gods comic book. I nabbed the regular American Gods cover and then two variant covers. (I also picked up a copy of the actual novel that started it all, reading it currently.)

Bag Break: Tyson Naturals Italian Style Chicken Strips Review

I opened and ate (not in one sitting) a bag of Tyson Naturals Chicken Strips. The version I had was the Italian Style ones like pictured below.

Verdict: I liked them. The breading and overall eating experience sort of made me think of some flavored Shake N Bake.

I bake them in a lil oven, not sure how they turn out in the microwave.

"Real Simple."

Topps NOW Celebrates Opening Day Baseball 2017

Topps NOW is the on demand printed baseball cards from Topps, generally offering a few cards each day based on note-worthy events in baseball the previous day.

I speak of the opening day ones, more or less, to have a post celebrating the start of the 2017 MLB season and to remember what occured on said first day of games. There were only three MLB games played on the day.

The first offering of the Topps NOW season featured 5 trading cards with the following events.

1. First Pitcher To Ever Hit 2 HRs on Opening Day: Madison Bumgarner

I watched the San Francisco Giants vs Arizona Diamondbacks (as a Giants fan) and it was an entertaining game up until the point where the Giants bullpen picked right up where they left off the 2016 season by blowing a save. It's funny that for a brief window a pitcher leads MLB in HRs.

The Topps NOW card of Bumgarner has him coming to the plate to get a high-five from Brandon Belt.

2. Walk Off Single Caps Off Comeback Win on Opening Day: Chris Owings

Upper Deck e-pack Gets Dinosaurs In The Store

The latest digital card offering from Upper Deck is trading cards featuring Dinosaurs. I've never bought any of the digital card offerings from Upper Deck, however, I do log into the e-pack website every time that I remember to because you get 1 free pack a day.

My Upper Deck digital trading card collection is about to start getting a lot of dinosaur cards in it! The daily free e-pack of Upper Deck Dinosaur trading cards nets you only a single card, but free is free, and dinosaur pictures are dinosaur pictures.

Man-Thing Vol 5 #1 A & B Covers/ R.L. Stine!

Here are a couple of random comic books I picked up. Both are Issue #1 from the current 5th volume of Marvel's character Man-Thing.

Am I a fan of Man-Thing? Nope. I don't know a THING about it. I have not read this issue yet either, plan to check it out. The reason I thought this comic was interesting was because R.L. Stine of Goosebumps book series fame was involved in the writing. As a kid I was a big Goosebumps fan, collected them all, and the Stine connection was interesting.

I thought the main Man-Thing Vol 5 #1 Cover A Regular Tyler Crook Cover was cool artwork, but then I had to have the Man-Thing Vol 5 #1 Cover B Variant Ron Lim because it was cool too. Some of the other more pricey variants were cool artwork as well, but not being an invested collector of Man-Thing in general, I figured two of the more common versions would suffice.
