2015 Ends With A Bunt

The year 2015 did not involve another championship for my team of choice the San Francisco Giants, nor did the New York Mets defeat the Royals as I rooted for them in the World Series. The year was not a good one for buying boxes of baseball cards in my opinion, the lottery tickets were mostly a big BUST.

I end the year with a realignment of my collection once again, not sure the exact HOLD collection, but something fun I am sure. Also, thanks to holiday sales I nabbed a cheap tablet and downloaded TOPPS BUNT app for the first time ever. It is the offseason, so, the game aspect does not seem to be in play, but I've got some digital cards now and can investigate THAT market, as people do buy and trade for such things.

My first packs of Topps Bunt digital cards opened did not land me something super, super rare, but I did wind up with two of the "rare" Gold cards of players Evan Gattis and Randal Grichuk.

Now I'll just have to get into football, soccer, and apparentl…

2015 Bowman's Best Box Break: The Best or The Finest?

I bought a single hobby box of 2015 Bowman's Best. The chrome technology of the cards reminds me more of Topps Finest than say Topps Chrome cards. They are pretty nifty cards I suppose, here's some of the box break pictures. I think I've had more fun opening Topps Finest though in comparison.

Here is the outer box, the inner boxes, and the packs:

The very first pack I opened confused me because instead of five cards it had a single thick card. This was a Hi-def Heritage insert card. I got one of these in each inner box and actually think they are a rip off taking up the entire pack by themselves.

Here are the autograph hits. Two are Green serial numbered out of /99 cards. Players: Michael Chavis, Wilmer Difo, James Kapriellian, and Kyle Tucker. I like that I got all on card autos.

The Mirror Image inserts:
Top Prospect insert:

Here are my base parallels, a blue /150 Daniel Norris RC and an Atomic refractor of Trevor Rosenthal:

and finally here are some base rookies, pros…

Quick 2015 Topps Update Retail Box Break

I opened some 2015 Topps Update baseball cards purchased from a Target store.

Here's the outside of the box:

Here's the inside of the box:

Here's the only really notable card that I have the time to take blurry pictures of/ 2015 Topps Update CHROME Noah Syndergaard RC Gold Refractor serial numbered out of 250.

The chrome cards are nice with sparkles.

2015 Topps Tribute Re-Release Continues to Get Messy

2015 Topps Tribute was a quality control nightmare that they recalled. Check.
They are re-releasing the product that was returned, supposedly "fixed it. Check.
The configuration of the product release confuses me, Topps says you get this or that per BOX, websites selling it calls what they are selling PACKS, I can't figure it out. Check.

NOW, Topps announces what they announced about the loadout of the product is in fact wrong.

"2015 Tribute Special Edition Baseball announcement from Topps:

Please be advised due to an insertion error during the packout, six of the guaranteed relic cards in each case of ’15 Tribute Special Edition Baseball did not make it into the product. To compensate, we are sending out a special pack that contains six relics for each case you purchased to send to your customers that purchased this product. Example: if you purchased 10 cases from Topps, you will receive 10 packs."

Huh? What? So an extra pack is going to card shops and dealers I gu…

The Return of 2015 Topps Tribute: The Recalled Released Again

2015 Topps Tribute was THE product I was enthused for this year, it was my big splurge. The results were crummy autos that would wipe right off of the card due to surface coating issues (or something) and a complete product recall.

I sent in my cards and really was not impressed with what I got in return, after seeing many people really making out and getting a lot more  extra value back to them for the hassle of it all. I felt like a kind of got the short straw in all of it and it really did have some effect on my buying (or lack thereof) of baseball cards this year in terms of boxes I wanted to get. How could I trust that it would not happen again?

Now 2015 Topps Tribute is literally being put out again and I am not sure how I feel about that. Topps claims the cards have been treated, "fixed," and go so far as to say they have been re-signed, as well as now being encased. But, I have a hard time believing their claims of "fixing" at all considering my experience…

Baseball Cards For Video Games: Fallout 4 Edition

I sold my 2015 Topps Finest Purple Refractor set because, well, this is a great month for some products in my other areas of interests, specifically.....

AND there's still a Star Wars game coming out this month that I MUST have! AHHH.

Edward Scissorhands 25th Anniversary Target Steelbook

I was in Target and the price was right, the movie is cool, seems like a fit in my blu-ray collection next to the Super 8 steelbook.

Edward Scissorhands 25th Anniversary release, blu-ray, Target exclusive collectible steelbook version.
An Edward Scissorhands card set with cast autographs would be a cool product! Get on that someone!

2014 Topps Series 1 Walmart Discount Hanger Break: Red Jeter

I was at Wally World, eh, Walmart, does anyone call it Wally World? I don't. Any way, I was at Wally World and saw that they had some discounted hanger boxes of baseball cards and picked up a 2014 Topps one to see if I could beat the odds at a lower price.

And the answer is, basically no, not really an exciting box. However, here are some of the pulls from it:

Billy Hamilton and Jonathan Schoop rookie cards -

Derek Jeter Red Hot Foil card -

Retail yellow and Walmart blue -

and the insert cards -

SwagBucks For Baseball Cards

Previously I made a post about ways online to make extra cash for baseball card purchases. I'm not wanting to turn this into a "how to make money online" blog...but....

In 2010 I started an account with a search engine thing called Swagbucks. I used it several times to earn prize redemptions and back then they had actual baseball cards as a choice of prize. You could pick a player and they would send you a random card of said player. I went the Frank Thomas route, though never got anything exactly high end. Fast forward to today....

It has been years since I checked out Swagbucks and whoa, the website has changed. They expanded their money earning ways to search, watch videos, take surveys, print coupons, shopping, on and on different things. They also switched their prize format to mainly just gift cards, but to all the popular stores. Also, one can cash out to Paypal.  I figured I'd give it a whirl and let their videos play in my browser to earn Swagbucks. I casual…

2015 Topps Heritage High Number Blaster Break: Uno

2015 Topps Heritage High Number baseball cards have released to retail stores and I bought a blaster on a whim. The card stock is heavier than many products so the box had some more heft to it, seems like you're getting value, right? Well, for my $20 I can't say I was thriller with the pulls, but maybe it is enough bang for the Heritage fans buck, what do I know...

Here are what the base cards look like, a couple of the RCs I pulled:

I did not pull any of the action variation cards or color swap variations. However, in my blaster I did pull three of the higher numbered SHORT PRINTS or SPs as ye may call them. Here is that trio, not too bad.

Here are the inserts I pulled, Trout and Harper are represented, as well as Gallo and then the Astros team in general:
And lastly the only other notable pull was a Heritage High Number Chrome card numbered out of /999. It is a Micah Johnson RC, also pulled the base RC of him, maybe he becomes exciting in the future and I make bank! (not ho…

Music To Sort Cards To: The Waitresses - I Know What Boys Like

Let's make this possibly weird and awkward....sort your baseball cards to this fresh jam!

SliceThePie Is A Nice Way To Earn Extra Baseball Card Cash!

Baseball card collecting can become an expensive hobby. The lottery ticket and "value" influences of it can leave some collector's disappointed when they don't have that extra couple of bucks to throw away on cardboard. If you like listening to music as a hobby though, you might be able to use a certain website to enhance not only that, but also the baseball card collecting hobby.

SLICETHEPIE  is the website of which I speak. This is a website that has you listen to at least 90 seconds of a musical track and then write a short review of said musical track in the box to one side. And they pay you for that! Granted, it is only pennies on the dollar, ranging from 7 cents sometimes up to 14 cents. It used to be they would give me 18 cents a song, but I admit that has not occurred in a while. Lately  I've been mostly getting 8-9 cents a track with some tracks hitting a bonus of 12-14. Sometimes they will have you review fashion as well, giving pictures of shirts and s…

Brandon Crawford 2015 Topps Finest Blue Auto /150

My current project is a non-auto'd set that I am putting together. However, one of the cards I needed for my set was paired with a Brandon Crawford autographed card, so, I figured, why not. And thusly, I now have a 2015 Topps Finest Brandon Crawford autographed baseball card in my Tis blue serial numbered out of /150.

Super 8 and Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas Steelbook/ Metal Blu-ray

I'm not into movie downloads and I don't want the future of movies to be without a physical copy!

Some stores sell "steelbook" collector's editions of movies theses days, well, they've been at it for a while, and depending on the retailer you go to the art work and design may be an "exclusive" to their establishment.

I've had plenty of steelbook movies in the past, but I picked up a copy of SUPER 8 at Target because I felt like watching it and the packaging was the coolest version of this steelbook style or as the Target package said "metal" that I have seen.

The Target Super 8, as well as SOME of their other movies, is more akin to lunchbox style with the feel and artwork. I have had some of the steelbook variations for movies, such as DRIVE from Best Buy and the flat style of creation of it, well, the artwork could actually be scratched off of the surface of the material. Anyway, blah, blah, blah I really think the Super 8 metal bl…

Max Scherzer 2009 Ticket To Stardom 1/1 Plate

Here is a printing plate that is in my possession, something I randomly picked up and thought I might do something with, but then decided to put together a set of different cards and would rather trade or sell this to help with THAT goal.

And so, I had this once, and now it is on Ebay.

2015 Topps Chrome Baseball Blaster Break From Walmart

2015 Topps Chrome baseball cards had all sorts of issues involving its release. First, the product got pushed back in release date, however, the retail went out as previously scheduled and they had to try and pull it back off of shelves. Then after the actual release date people have been reporting that Chrome blasters at Targets and Walmarts are ringing up as only $9.99 a box instead of $19.99.

Most of the retail stores in my area did not have Chrome blasters, however, 20 minutes down the road I found a Walmart that had three. HOWEVER, they rang up at the regular price of $19.99, thus I only bought one.

Here is what a 2015 Topps Chrome blaster box looks like (my cat was double checking to make sure I pulled all of the cards out of it):

I pulled an autograph! I do not recall ever pulling an autographed baseball card from a retail product. The odds in chrome are 1:137. Of course, I did not pull one of "high value" to anyone currently, but hey, I won the lottery in terms of …

2015 Topps Finest Baseball Box Break: Are You Refracting Kidding Me?

I broke open a single box of 2015 Topps Finest. One can watch the video to hear me pronounce names wrong, almost lose a pack of the cards, and get SPITTING confused on how to tell what cards are refractors.

The winner was forum user azdbacks1998 from the BlowoutCards forum website!

I am giving these two baseball cards away for free!

One is a card that has a couple of DINGS to it on the corners and the other is a player who has DINGED up his foot or something and I think his season is over for the year.

I am posting this giveaway on the Blowoutcard forums in the contest section. If one wishes to be in on this can either post in that thread, OR comment on this post (have to figure out a way to get me your address if you win though)  - comment that you want to participate and pick a number between 1-1,000 and add that to your post. If more than one person for some reason pick the same number and that is the winning number I will randomize between those folks to pick a winner.

Winner chosen Sunday evening whenever I happen to be around sometime between 4-6 Pm PT time
