Matt Cain 2013 Gypsy Queen Auto Relic /25

The San Francisco Giants have not had an exciting offseason just yet while other teams seem to be stockpiling the big free agents. However, as a Giants fan I am somewhat excited for the return of Matt Cain! Can he return to good pitching form?

I picked up a redemption card from 2013 Gypsy Queen off of Ebay. Topps sent the actual card out pretty quickly. I have actually owned two others of this serial numbered out of twenty five card at one point and time and always liked the card, glad to have picked up another.

2013 Topps Finest Refractor Madison Bumgarner Baseball's Finest /25

The 1993 Topps Finest Refractors for some reason appeal to me. Specifically I used to have a PSA 10 of the Frank Thomas refractor and have always missed that card.  I sold it because I needed gas money to get from California to Missouri to visit family once upon a time ago. When Finest announced in 2013 that they would be paying homage to 1993 I was excited. (well, as excited as I can possibly get for baseball cards, I'm not that excitable a person.)  They got pretty expensive.

However, and even with his World Series performance having occurred, I found a Madison Bumgarner refractor, not a green All Star version, but one of the Baseball's Finest silver ones for a reasonable price and went for it; ten bucks cheaper than the previous one at auction! And now, even if I sell it I can still recall having owned it at one time; tends to be the trend with me and collecting cards, enjoy them and pass them along, because it is a rich man's hobby.

Pablo Sandoval Printing Plate 2013 Topps Series Two Cyan 1/1

Here is a Pablo Sandoval printing plate I picked up right before he got scooped up and away from the Giants by the Red Sox. He went out in style though, right? Making the final catch in winning game seven of the World Series, his catch and falling down will be an iconic image forever celebrated.

Madison Bumgarner 2014 Bowman Platinum Print Plate #41 1/1 Yellow

I landed this printing plate on Ebay as Madison Bumgarner was dominating to end the World Series. I won it for around $16. Right after the game his plates started going in the 40-60 range and his rookie ones for around $100, autographed patch ones a couple of hundred. I felt like I landed a deal. I see one of the matching plates is on Ebay as I type this, but the seller has way too high a price on it, so doubt I'll pair it up with its brother I have here.

Cal Ripken Jr. 1996 Ultra Seasons Crowns BGS 9.5

As a kid collecting baseball cards my favorite player to collect was first Frank Thomas. However, Cal Ripken Jr. cards become another favorite to go after. And thus, I add my first Cal Ripken Jr. card to my newly begun baseball card collection. I am a sucker for see-through insert cards.

The Start Of Something Mickey Mantle: A BGS Foursome Collection

I was watching the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals series and Bryce Harper had just swatted another big HR, and someone mentioned that he reminded them of Mickey Mantle. And for some reason that made me want a Mickey mantle card. Not having any sacks of gold lyring around to trade for valuable vintage I decided to nab some lower cost modern cards. This may be just the beginning, because once you have four Mickey Mantle cards, why not get four more?

The cards in the picture are as follows:
1. 1992 Pinnacle Mantle Mickey Mantle #13 BGS 9.5 GEM MINT
2. 1997 Topps Finest #33 Mickey Mantle & Willie Mays "Manager's Dream" BGS 9.5 GEM MINT

3. 2006 Topps Mickey Mantle Collection #1999 Mickey Mantle 1999 BGS 9 MINT
4. 2007 Topps #7 Mickey Mantle BGS 9.5 GEM MINT

This collection needs the 2007 Topps Derek Jeter with Mantle and Bush in the crowd to be added to it!

A Barry and Barry BGS Mail Day: Bonds & Larkin 9.5 Gold Label Diamond Kings

I did not have very much to spend in Ebay bucks, but spend them right away I did! I bought the first two graded cards that tickled my fancy, neither one exactly high end, but fun for me as a collector to get. Well, the Bonds holder is kind of scuffed up, there was something on the back that ay have been chocolate, and it took the seller over a week to get it mailed to me, but "free" is free I guess.

Matt Cain 1/1 2010 T-206 Printing Plate Yellow

Per-usual I am refocusing my collection, sold off every single baseball card previously featured in this blog, needed some cash and the Giants making it into the playoffs motivated me to grab the few extra bucks I could from my collection. HOWEVER, it all starts again!

My first card going into the PC is a San Francisco Giant who went off to have surgery in 2014. I hope he comes back strong in 2015, as the surgery was to clear up a problem that has been bugging him for a couple of seasons now I do believe, Matt Cain with a fresh arm could be dangerous.

I really liked 2010 T-206 cards, I used to have every Buster Posey card aside from 1/1s that were released in that series as part of my super Buster Posey collection I started that year and then sold off.  So, when I saw this Matt Cain at a reasonable price I had to have it. My main motivation in baseball cards is to have fun with it as a hobby and to collect cards that are cool to me. There may be an emphasis on graded cards (love the h…

A Rare Brandon Belt Rookie: 2011 Allen & Ginter's Mini BAZOOKA BACK /25

Here is a Brandon Belt baseball card that I got this year, his prices at auction have been pretty low, though set price sales of his cards sellers still want your first born and a new car for his cards. I picked this one up on an auction. I think Giants fans are still waiting for Brandon Belt to break out as a superstar and many may still see 2014 has having been a breakout year even if he was injured for most of it and not playing, he keeps showing such nice flashes of potential. He is a fun player to watch. *I sold this soon after posting to this blog*

Madison Bumgarner 2014 Bowman PURPLE ICE 03/10

Here is the Madison Bumgarner 2014 Bowman Purple Ice serial numbered 03/10 I picked up earlier this year. He has had a great year. It's also a good and bad thing when your favorite players have good seasons, the good being obvious, the bad being it makes their cards a little more expensive to come by.

Completed The Set: 2013 Topps Finest Base & REFRACTORS!

I completed the entire 2013 Topps Finest base card set and then I went and did it all again with the 2013 Topps Finest REFRACTOR set. I toyed with the idea of continuing onward with X-fractors and Green Refractors, but trying to put together the base refractor set was annoying enough ala people wanting either (what I determined to be) too much money or sending me base cards when I paid for refractor and so on. BUT I DID IT! The hardest to get card was the Yasiel Puig RC refractor. At the time of my searching it was selling for $4-6 on Ebay, yet people with BUY IT NOW prices were not willing to go that low and then the only auctions were all shilled when I bid, ugh. The shilled auctions went for around the right amount, a little over on a couple, but I got irritated and decided I would just buy one outright off of Sportslot.

After I finished off the sets I penny sleeved all of them and put them into a 400 count box; these count boxes never seem to hold the amount they say; I know, I k…

A Good 2013 Finest Oswaldo Arcia Green /125 Auto Story Bad Bumgarner /50 Mini Sepia Story

A couple of cards I got in the mail recently, an up and a down in collecting. Let's start on a positive note.

Perhaps not the most valuable redemption to have, but I pulled a redemption card for a 2013 Topps Finest RC Autograph of OSWALDO ARCIA. It is the green refractor version serial numbered 029/125. The good of the story is this is the quickest turnaround I've ever experienced on a redemption. Always seems to take months, this card arrived in a quick amount of time after redeeming for sure.

Now for a card that I bought off of Ebay. A 2014 Gypsy Queen Mini Sepia of MADISON BUMGARNER serial numbered 15/50. The card took 18 days to arrive. 18. And then when it arrived I had to cut the card out of the holder because of the tape. And on top of that the edges of the card are chipped up pretty bad. YOu can see the rough top edge in the picture, you can also see the slash in the penny sleeve from when I cut it out of the holder.

2013 Topps Finest Box Break: RCs, Redemption, and Gold Adeiny Hechavarria Auto

I recently busted open a box of 2013 Topps Chrome baseball cards and I was not satisfied, more cards, more! 2013 Topps Finest was a product I was very interested in, but was not able to buy any of when it was released. I am a big fan of the ole 1993 Finest cards! I landed a single box of 2013 Topps Finest off of Ebay for $73-ish. Here's what the product packaging looks like: BOX, 2 MINI BOXES inside, and then PACKS:

Here were the two autographs that I pulled. Er, one autograph and one redemption card. The Adeiny Hechavarria is a gold refractor serial numbered 07/50 :

Counting the autographs there were 18 RC cards in the boxes. Here are some of the base RCs:

Here is the lone Insert card I got out of the box, NOT the rare refractor I was daydreaming about when I bid on the box, because it's not a refractor at all:

Here are the refractors I DID pull! Base refractors, 2 X-fractors, and one green serial numbered out of /199:

Jonah Heim 2013 Bowman Draft Red Ice Likes Jessica Hall's Feet: Shoe Card!

Here are a couple of cards that the price was right on, one was like $1.99 and the other $8-something and intriguing because I've always had a kinky wish to see one in person. The latter one is not the Jonah Heim Red Ice card.

Here is Jonah, serial numbered out of /25:

And now Jessica Hall gives my blog some steam from a Benchwarmer release. This is a serial numbered out of /50 card with a piece of her shoe embedded in it.

2013 Topps Chrome Single Hobby Box Break: Starlin Castro Mojo

Topps Chrome was good to me in 2010 and 2011, however, I have not actually opened a box of it since 2011! I nabbed a 2013 Topps Chrome hobby box off of Ebay for $69-ish. It wasn't a jaw dropping break, but I have seen worse ones I suppose.

Here are some of what the base cards look like, Papelbon seems pretty jazzed about them:

Oh yeah, and here is what the box and packs looked like that they came out of.

These are some insert cards. I got some pretty good names in this department:

Here are some of the refractors, base and Xfractosr that came in the box. That Jon Jay photo is cool. The Hellickson on the bottom in the middle is actually a blue serial numbered out of /199 refractor.:

And the we have the "hits." 2013 Topps Chrome is supposed to come with two autographs per box. My box indeed had two, did not find the second one until the very last pack, so I was starting to wonder. Tyler Skaggs base auto and a Rob Brantly blue serial numbered out of /199.

The Joe Panik Bowman Best Trio Adds Matt Cain Tribute Gold /25 To Form Quartet!

I got a trio of 2012 Bowman Joe Panik cards in the mail today from. He's not tearing it up in the big leagues, but he is showing some nice/ solid promise of better things to possibly come with the Giants.

Bowman's Best Prospect #21 The BASE CARD, the serial numbered out 22 of 99 diecut REFRACTOR and then the 10/25 Xfractor refractor. I used to have two of the other out of 25 ones, sold them, now I've got a new one to store in a box! I swear I rotated the picture to be upright!

Seeing as Matt Cain just went on the DL again, he has time to join Joe Panik and make this a barbershop quartet. I imagine Matt sings bass on their rendition of "Take Out The Papers And The Trash." Here is a 2014 Topps Tribute Gold card serial numbered17/25 that I got of Mr. Cain.

Brandon Belt 2011 Allen & Ginter Zaooka Back Mini /25 & 2012 Chrome Red Refractor /25!

Let the collecting begin again! I landed two serial numbered Brandon Belt baseball cards.

2011 Topps Allen and Ginter Mini RC Bazooka back serial numbered 08/25

I've had a couple of these Brandon belt red refractors pass through my hands, now I've got one back! 2012 Topps Chrome Red Refractor serial numbered 04/25
